What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice.
Central message: Preaching/serving the Lord Jesus Christ with Joy, and with the right motives out of a pure heart amid suffering for the Lord
Message Outline:
Introduction (Paul’s circumstances/The church at Philippi)
The Greater Progress of (to advance) the Gospel (Philippians 1:12-14)
The Motivation for Preaching the Gospel (Philippians 1:15-17) - Preaching Christ with wrong motives - Preaching Christ with right motives
Paul’s Attitude (Philippians 1:18)
Message Summary:
Paul’s Joy was not tied to his circumstances, false claims or his critics
His Joy was in the Gospel proclaimed and with authority
Paul endured with patience the unjust accusations without bitterness at his accusers, rather he rejoiced that they preached Christ, even in a pretense (false claim of godliness)
Regardless of their motives, Christ was preached
Paul believed that it would turn out for his good, and for the extension of God’s kingdom
Conclusion:
Christ’s desire for us is that we should serve HIM with pure motives, out of love and good will by rejoicing in hope in HIM, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer which is all rooted from a pure heart and to grow in HIS HOLINESS/PURITY/LIVE A GODLY LIFE molded/transformed into the image/likeness of HIS SON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and finally when we present ourselves before the Lord in HIS PRESENCE with no spot/wrinkles, HE SHOULD DECLARE US HOLY AND BLAMELESS FOR HIS GLORY
Application:
Do we have the burden for the gospel?
Are we willing to suffer for the gospel as Apostle Paul did?
Do we have the Joy amid suffering for the gospel?
Which group do we belong? - Serving the Lord with wrong motives - Serving the Lord with right motives
